Cold as Ice, I Know

So, I got my computer back today, right before Coadster's last show choir concert. BK rocks and he fixed a bunch of stuff and loaded me up with some cool things, and now I'm trying to figure out how to work with all the differences that are good, but will take a little time getting used to. Hopefully, by the early part of next week, I'll get back to my old blog reading schedule. I also want to try to add some new blogs to the roll this weekend.

Mostly, tonight I'm posting the photos I took during the ice storm. The first one, was our screen door that we couldn't see out of when we first woke up.

This one is my favorite. I've always been a little weirded-out by the pod vine that tries to choke out this bush every year. I think the pods are even creepier encased in ice.

Here is some ice on the weeds in my backyard. I like how it's frozen in mid-drip.

For some reason, we didn't do any grilling that day.

This was the view across the street from me, complete with heavy trees and sagging wires. I don't know about you, but I thought the powerlines could have benefited from a well engineered bra.

Margaret,

I know, and they're right by my door.

Underwire - you slay me.

I love, love, love the frozen pod. That's a great photo.

Eek. Photos like that last one give me nightmares. During the Great Ice Storm of 1994, I was without power for 12 days and the city of Memphis was completely paralyzed and looked like a war zone for months afterwards.

But pretty much any ice storm paralyzes this city anyway. Or more than two inches of snow and/or ice.

That photo (the bottom one) is beautiful though. Ice storms always make for such pretty pictures.

Seems crazy! I have been to the beach today...doesnt snow up here in Queensland

I thought the first one was of a fancy new finish on a refridgerator door. Heh. Sort of was.

GREAT pics and YEAH BK!

Churlita,
I hate ice storms for the damage they do. There are opportunities for some spectacular shots though.
One thing that amazes me is how a plant encased in ice can come back vibrant as ever in spring.

I don't think it's a Triffid. Not sure, but I think they look like broccoli, not this.

I'm betting on Audrey, as in "Little Shop of Horrors". If I were you, I'd want the snow cover to stay a LONG time. There's no telling what's been buried under there this winter.

Woohoo! Thank God you got your computer fixed. That's great. It looks so darn cold. Mind you I woudln't mind a bit of that right now.

Dana,

Thanks. I'm kind of fond of the photo myself.

Lynnster,

How scary. Our power was only off for a few hours, and that was annoying enough.

Les Q,

You can just shut-up about being at the beach, thank you.

Not Faint Hearted,

It kind of looks like one of those shower doors too.

Rel,

Ice storms do make for some fun pics. It is amazing that it can get that cold, and still not completely kill off plants.

DMarks,

I would happily brave seeing what lies underneath the ice and snow, if it would just get a little warmer.

Michelle,

I know it's summer where (or fall?) where you are, but do your winters get like this?

Cool photos. Glad your PC has been nursed back to health.

Brando,

Thanks. I'm way more excited about it than I should be. It's sad hoe dependent I've become.

Oh, I understand. I needs my Intertubes. When I first moved here, I could't get cable for a month because my apartment building hadn't been wired. It was much easier to give TV up for a month than the Web.

Brando,

I'm right there with you. I could give up TV so much easier than the internets.
