Modern Medicine Falls Short of Your Complaints

I got home from work yesterday and Coadster had already left for soccer practice. I had about 10 minutes before it was time to pick-up Stinky, so I figured I'd waste some time messing around on the internets. The first thing I saw when I got on was a YouTube video of The Fifth Dimension's "Wedding Bell Blues". Coadster must have been watching it, and I wasn't sure if I should be worried or not.

I have already documented Coadster's bizarre taste in movies and music. I can't even count the number of times she's watched Tommy and Jesus Christ Superstar. And, although I might be able to live happily for the rest of my life without seeing either film again, I still can't get enough of Coadster's exaggerated show choir-type moves when she sings, "YOU'VE got the power, YOU'VE got the glory" in our living room.

Lately, Coadster's love of weird music is being taken to new levels...And this is coming from me. Most people think they like some cheesy music, and then they meet me, and are completely impressed, or totally frightened - usually both. Don't get me wrong, Coadster still likes a lot of contemporary stuff like Pinback, Death Cab, and the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, but the rest of her playlist looks like this:

1. Hurdy Gurdy Man - Donovan

2. For Once in My Life - Stevie Wonder

3. Up-UP and Away-The Fifth Dimension

4. Incense and Peppermints - The Strawberry Alarm Clock

5. Me and Mrs. Jones - Billy Paul

6. Too Shy Shy - Kajagoogoo

7. Tainted Love - Soft Cell

See what I mean? I know if I cornered her and asked her why she was so into that kind of crap, she'd just answer with, "I learned it by watching you."

"Tainted Love"? The earworm force is strong in this one, young Skywalker.

That is some list she's got there. At least it's not full of booty shakin', gettin' up in dat, and drizzle no-sizzle crap. It seems the kids take after parents in some cases, looks to be true in your household.

I once won a VHS copy of "The Graduate" by knowing who sang Incents and Peppermint". When I picked up the tape, it was broken. As was my heart.

That 5th Dimension song makes me want to jam a pencil into my ear.

Tainted Love. I can loop that one for hours.

We listened to Tainted Love at track meets while we French braided each other's hair.

I know. I'm sorry...Okay, I'm not, really. But the earworm force is always strong on my blog, you know that.

I like the "Crack is Whack" one too.

Yeah. that poor girl never stood a chance.

That story is so sad. What a rip-off.

There are actually two Fifth Dimension songs referenced, so you could jam a pencil in each ear.

Mrs. Mogul,

How scary do they look now?

Me too. It's looping in my brain right now.

My friend and I used to sing parts of Jesus Christ Superstar during highschool art class to bug our teacher. I'd sing What's the buzz, tell me whatsahappening or sometimes, Iiiiiiii dooooon't want your blood money.

Golly, I know all those tunes!
That's scary.
Happy Easter to you and your superstars!

Thanks. Happy Easter to you too.

I think you should start listening to gangsta rap, especially when carting around the kids and friends, that should really mortify them. Rap along with hand gestures and everything.

I love the eclectic vibe she's got going here. Lot of good old school stuff on that list. Apparently the apple don't fall far from the tree after all.

It would be even funnier if I started talking all street in every day conversation too. The beauty of having teenagers, is that it's so easy to embarrass them.

Yeah. I'm aware that I only have myself to blame.

Just saw in the news that Donovan will be flying in to Fairfield - and appearing at the David Lynch Festival.

You want tickets?

P.S. I was going to mail you a hamball today...but...well...they were rather good.

Bro In-Law,

Really? How old is he now? 70? I wonder what kind of a show he'd put on.

Is that Brooke Hogan in the backround?

Kajagoogoo is AWESOME. Holy buckets. White Feathers is THE BEST album. Limahal is pretty close to as hot as a person with a highlighted, oversprayed Euro-Mullet can be - and that's pretty dang hot.

It might be Linda Hogan. I think that was filmed in 1972.
