Well How Can You Say You Will When You Won't?

Dai reading from "A Child's Christmas in Wales". I forgot my real camera and had to take it with my phone.

I am officially the lamest blogger ever. I figured I'd go running at the rec building tonight and then come home and write a more thoughtful blog post than I have lately, but then that didn't happen, did it?

I texted my friend K. earlier to see if she wanted to go with me to work-out. She said she wouldn't be able to, but she was going to The Sanctuary for the Dylan Thomas reading and was I interested in joining her and her boyfriend. I thought about it, and decided I was.

I got there and it said it was sold-out. Since the Welsh guy giving the reading is married to a good friend of mine, I went in anyway, and sat with some people I worked with back in the eighties and it was all very nice. I got carded when I went to buy my one pint of very delicious wheat beer, so the night couldn't get much better.

K. and her boyfriend decided they weren't going to try and squeeze in. She texted me that they were at the Mill. I mingled for a few minutes after the reading, and then drove over to K.'s boyfriend's house, where they went after they fell into their food comas. I only stayed an hour and then went home.

So, obviously, I didn't get around to writing a thoughtful post tonight. Maybe that will happen tomorrow. Until that time, I have a question for you: Is it just me, or do other people get super excited about kicking the snow clumps out of the tire wells of their cars in the Winter?

A big dirty drop of snow/slush out of my wheel wells is only slightly more satisfying than chopping ice in a way that makes lifting a huge sheet off your sidewalk come up like a long strip of wallpaper or sunburnt skin off your back. Only slightly better if it just takes one good boot to get the clump to drop, preferably in a parking lot and not my driveway. If I've got to kick and kick at one of those icy, rock-solid clumps, it can be very frustrating. And painful.

No, Churlita, you're not alone.

Churlita,
I'm a shoveler at heart, but will kick a wheel well glog when and if it touches my tire.

Having neither snow nor tyre wells I don't think I'm in a position to know. I am partial to a bit of Dylan Thomas though. Thoughtful posts can wait, socialising has to be done now.

I've perfected running across the parking lot at the new apartment, sliding across the ice then falling into the hillside of snow/slush/mud.

This should answer you question...

Was the reading good?

I was sort of missing those days of snow chunk kicking, until our 70 degree weather turned to 20 degrees in one day.

I was going to say just you, but first commenter went and made a big fat liar out of me. So. There you go. Just more proof of the infinite variety ...

Snow boogers!!! I love kicking them. So so satisfying. I've been known to kick them off other people's cars in the parking lot. Of course, that tends to get me looked at askance. whatever.

It snowed again last night here. Another couple of inches of powder. If I were a skier, I'd be in heaven. But I'm not. So I just nag the boys to shovel. Again.

I get excited about kicking those things out sometimes. I have to be wearing the right shoes and I have to be under the right amount of stress and it helps if there's a little melting going on with the clumps. I heard once that those clumps actually have a name, but I don't remember what they're called.

I haven't tried kicking them yet this winter, although I've been very tempted. It's just too cold now. Maybe later this week when it warms up a bit, the timing will be right!

I'd say you had an extremely successful night out. I mean it's a great compliment when you're over 40 and have to pull out the old ID.

Hearing a reading of A Child's Christmas in Wales sounds like a great holiday activity!

I'm sorta sad now that I've never had the chance to kick snow out of a wheel well...

I don't get super excited, but it is a great way to release tension by kicking those things off my tires. A few times I've heard chunks fall off my car when I've made turns and I thought a functional piece of the car had fallen off. But nope, just snow.

Hey, have an awesome Christmas and New Year! I'm sure I'll be blogging in the meantime, but I wanted to get that out before I forgot.
