It Comes Upon Me Without Warning

Here is a picture of a dead bird in the snow.

Today I watched the Steelers play and the game was bad. And when I say bad, I mean the Steelers lost.

Just as we were getting ready to leave The Vine and go home, I got a text from Stinky telling me she felt sad. She said she didn't want me to leave my game, but she was just feeling kind of bad in general. I told her I'd be home in five minutes. I think she just had a case of the the Sunday sads. Have you ever had those? I used to get that all the time when I was younger and I overextended myself during the weekend, and Sunday just seemed kind of lonely and final.

Our original plan was to finally go get our tree, but Stinky just wasn't into it. I asked her what she needed and she suggested a movie. Escapism. What an excellent choice. So, we drove to the Sycamore Mall and decided to see whatever movie that was fun and going to be showing the soonest. That movie happened to be Alvin and the Chipmunks. We had about a half hour before the movie, so we wandered around and looked at stuff.

After the movie, we stopped at Panera's for soup and bread and hot chocolate and we even ate dessert first - just like you're supposed to. While we were eating, Stinky asked me if I liked the movie. I told her it was cute. It wasn't something I would make a point to see, but it made her happy. And I'd see it a hundred times if it could do that for her every time.

That game sucked....worse yet, I have to listen to all the puffed up Brownie fans today. The two teams are sort of tied now.

What a cool mom you are.

You're the best mother ever. The Chipmunk movie is a pretty deep sacrifice.

I had the Sunday Blues well into my late 20s...escapism and hot chocolate are key--good choices!

You are a great mom!

I can't imagine anything better at that age than when you tell your mom you are feeling sad that she comes home to be with you and listens and spends time doing what will make you feel better.

Amazing and rare. That's you!

I totally know about the Sunday blues! Have you ever heard Johnny Cash's song "Sunday Morning Comin Down"? He sings, "..cuz there's somethin' in a Sunday that makes the body feel alone.." Love that song.

Very sad picture. I have one of a few feathers and blood in the snow I can post... (apparently, a fresh hawk kill)

I used to get the 'deep blue funk' in my 20's. One time I remember looking out the window when I was in the UI Main library and just feeling like there was endless nothingness beyond.

But, you did a great thing taking the time to listen to your daughter when she needed you, the world needs more parents like you!

I too get the Sunday sads, but have decided, actually last night, not to let this happen anymore. My Sunday sads are totally due to ironing and realizing that I'll have to get up at or before 5:30 the next morning. God. Now I'm depressed again- and it's Monday.
