Don't Let it Bring You Down

I just found out a guy I know died this weekend in a plane crash. He was a great husband and father to his wife and three kids and he was also just an all around good guy. I don't think I ever even heard him talk shit about anybody. He always made me look really bad in comparison.

The weird thing, is that his death was almost one year to the day of the awesome history professor's last February. Both men were amazing and worked hard at raising great, healthy kids. Of course, those kinds of deaths always beg the question: why, when there are so many nasty people fucking up kids on a daily basis, do the good dad's die before they have a chance to finish, or in this case, barely begin their job?

I read a blog post last year, (I have no idea which one it was, or I would attribute) where they talked about being able to trade one living asshole, for a great person who was already dead. I wouldn't even have to go that far. I'd be happy to just prevent the good ones from dying young in the future. I'd also be willing to trade some other jerk to die in their stead. In fact, I think we could easily work out a two for one deal. Give me five minutes to write a list of possible jerk candidates that I'd be willing to sacrifice, and it would stretch all the way down to the end of my very long street.

Okay, I'm done being all depressing for now. Tomorrow I promise to make more dork-ass cartoon pictures of myself, or go on ad nauseum about how crunk I was because I drank my gin and juice out of a sippy cup at the mall or whatever heinous nonsense I usually write on here. However it turns out, I'm dedicated to making my next post more Churlita-lite.

There would need to be a review process for everyone's asshole list. I am sure that almost everyone would be on someone's asshole list.

Don't fret over being "depressing" or worrying about being up for your next post. Down or so-so days are a part of life and that's what makes people's blogs interesting sometimes are reading thru the various ups AND the downs. A lot of times I skip posting on my down days (last night was one) but not always. You don't hafta worry nor make promises to be more chipper, I'll read you whether you are or not. ;)

And, that photo is hilarious! You are so punk rock I can't stand it. :D

It's so painful when the precious ones go and it's seriously tempting to feel like they were snatched to deliberately make our lives more bankrupt, but isn't it amazing how they still pulse and work in the world? Their impact is so much bigger and better and cooler and greater than any asshole.

I mean, the assholes make a lot of messes, the excellent, excellent ones have such a beautiful talent for making some kind of art out of it. It's a mystery how they do it, but I'm glad they do.

Killer,

I'm sure my name would cross-over on several lists. So, maybe what I meant to say, was let me decide who should die or not. Wait. Does that mean I have a god complex?

Lynnster,

yeah. It doesn't bother me when other people write about sad times, I just don't want to fall into that hole of my blog becoming all whiny and morose. I'm sure I'll still write about things that suck sometimes in the future too.

Booda Baby,

Both the guys I talked about on here were the kind that made an art form out of being awesome. I wish I was better at it.

I could totally add my son's dad to that list and only feel bad for about 2.4 seconds.

I'm sorry you lost your friend.
Also, your posts are imperative in my life at this point. Good, bad, crunky...it's all worth it to me:)

That's so sad.

What with the obscene cold and all, it's hard to stay upbeat all the time. That's why I've turned to drinking lots of wine these past several days.

Churlita,
As I'm sure I've mentioned before, I'm fond of the saying; It rains on the good and the bad alike.
I know that some times it seems like the good die young and the bad guys live forever, but i don't think it's true.
Be careful about trading. Some assholes aren't bad guys, they just live in another dimension. Not all apparent good guys are.
Living is risky, but not doing life is a travesty. You plug along and do the best you can everyday and that's all you can ask.

More cartoon pics" Can't wait ;-)

Why am I just now hearing about this hide the liquor while at the mall trick? Hasta la vista, Starbucks. From now on, it's BYOB at the food court. Thanks for the tip!

Rachel,

i was thinking I might put my ex as first on the list. Do you mind placing your ex second?

ILYITF,

Thanks. I feel the same way about your blog. I'm so happy you posted again.

Eek,

Yes. Wine is very, very good in all this cold.

Rel,

I'm sure you're right. It just feels like the good ones die young, and I'm a girl who operates on feelings rather than logic. Bad idea, I know.

Fringes,

It's the only way to deal with being at the mall.

C, I'm sorry your friend died. That's very sad. I know it sounds cliche, but I think it's more how you live your life than how long you live it.

Brando,

You're completely right and I think both of the guys were very happy with how they lived their lives. I'm mostly sad for their families, you know?
