What It Is Ain't Exactly Clear

Here's me fanning myself with my friend's head on a stick. It looks a little disconcerting, doesn't it? (photo courtesy of the Neffs)

The beginning of this post might sound a little bit like that old "Jim's Journal" cartoon. Today I was practical and it was fine. I worked, and then I went to the dentist and had a cavity filled and that was relatively painless. Then I came home and cleaned and finally, I went to yet another of Coadster's choir concerts. See? It was all just fine.

This weekend, though? Guess what's going on in our town this weekend. They're having the funeral for that family that got bludgeoned to death by their dad. It will be so sad and tragic all on it's own. But then that one stupid guy who protests military funerals because somehow there might be homosexuals in the military? Wait. Why is it again that he protests military funerals? Anyway, you know that douche bag I'm talking about, right? He's coming to protest the funeral, because apparently, Iowa is some HUGE mecca for gay tolerance. I've lived here a long time, and I had no idea that was the case, did you? So, from what I hear, there is a group of bikers who come and protest the douche bag homophobe guy and on top of that, there will be tons of cops trying to enforce the new "500 feet protester keep their distance" rule. I guess what I'm saying is, JAAAAAYSUS! I will be as far away from that circus as possible.

What I'll be doing instead is going to The Dublin to celebrate my friend GW's birthday on Friday night. Then on Saturday during the day, I'll meet some friends for sushi and shoe shopping. This, of course, is Stinky's dream afternoon. We did it once before, and she can't stop talking about how much she liked it and how much fun my friends are.

My wish for you this weekend, my gentle readers, is that you avoid douche bag homophobes and unnecessary drama. Amen.

Churlita,
Then I guess I'll avoid the tv, 'cause the media will cover that crap like flys on a manure pile. I'm going to the Dublin with you....that would be after the shoe shopping spree, sans rel. ;)

People need to find some hobbies or get a job. Protesting a funeral is bad enough then throw in protesting the guy who protests the funerals. I think we protesteth too much.

Me and Renee will be going to see a blues band. There will be 6 of 7 other couples there. People I used to work with and their other halves. Should be fun and I will hopefully have photos this time.

I heard about that family being massacred.. very sad.. even more sad is that htese so-called homophobs are willing to waste time and not letting the remaining families grieve and that is just plain rude and disrespectful..

I hate that Effing guy! That stuff makes me so mad.
Sushi and shoe shopping...oh damn, that sounds awesome. I will be in IC tomorrow afternoon--lunch at Mickey's then whatever. I'm heading out quickly. But if you see any fantastic shoes that I can't live without--you know my number.
Now I am craving sushi...shoot! Where's your fave IC place?

Shoes AND sushi? Yowzers. That's enough to explode the old head. Does it get much better?

You're so Sex and the City!! I've never done sushi and shoe-shopping (or any shopping) in the same week, let alone same day. Plus drinks out - girl, you are having way too much fun. Keep it up!

hopefully I'll avoid all douchebags, and not just the homophobic ones. I want a weekend like yours....hmm maybe I will do most of that.

I start tonight with a staff happy hour. The staff I like.

and then a conference call. (nice timing, huh?)

After that, more work and my Simon LeGree impersonation as I crack the whip on the boys to clean the house for the inspection on Monday.

couldn't I just come down to the Dublin?

I think my daughter would like to come live with you, because while I don't care for sushi or shoe shopping, she would be in heaven.

Avoiding douchebag homophobes is my major purpose in life.

Celebrating a birthday is way better than paying attention to some homophobic, close-minded dumb-ass. Happy Birthday, GW! I don't know you at all, but have a happy birthday! :)

Rev Phelps. He came around here once. Someone did a documentary about him for public access cable, and made him look very bad. It appears they had to do little or no editing of the footage: Rev Phelps makes himself look very very bad naturally.

I tried to watch a documentary about these people, as I like to learn as much about that kind of stuff and about people who have differing opinions and beliefs from mine, but they were so hateful and ridiculous I couldn't get through 15 minutes of the film.

They were not worth wasting my time to try to understand. Their hearts are filled with hatred disguised as faith. That is all..

Also kind of sounds like when I lived near OSU and had to hunker down or leave town during home football games.

I don't remember what shoe shopping is if it doesn't involve a Santa B. consignment store or a Saks sale. This is my favorite secret I'm happy to tell: Saks, crazy expensive all the rest of the year, has THE best sales.

I like writing this AFTER you've been. What'd you get?
