Oh, I Just Don't Know Where to Begin

I got tagged by Bice to do a meme where I name six weird things about me. Since I'm just a big old pile of quirkiness, this should be the easiest meme I've ever done.

1.) I love Iowa in general and Iowa City specifically. I know I didn't grow up here, but it's the closest thing to home I've ever had. I think it's great that everything is so cheap here, all the janitors and most of the waiters have advanced degrees and that we grow food that feeds much of the world.

2.) I like everything to make noise. I press the ends of my hair together so I can hear the crackling sound it makes and I can get cotton sheets to make a popping sound. (according to my sister, I've done that since I was a baby)

3.) I'm a girl who hates shoes. I barely ever wore them when I was a kid and the only reason I wear them regularly now is because it's cold out and because I messed my feet up from going barefoot so often when I was younger.

4.) I'm also a girl who doesn't understand the point of jewelry. Okay, I understand the whole ornamentation thing, but it really isn't worth the bother of remembering to put it on and take it off.

5.) I pretty much lived in my tent for a whole summer when I was nineteen. I had a trailer to stay in when I needed to, but I preferred to hang out in my tent on the banks of the Eel River.

6.) I think and speak in bad song lyrics way too often. I also change them to fit the conversation. I've been told this is really annoying, and I'm sorry, but I can't help myself. I can also recite entire commercials from the 70's and 80's. Of course, all this pop culture trivia knowledge has crowded out any practical information my brain may have held.

Churlita,
I make up lyrics when I sing all the time. Folks at work are ripe with anticipation to hear what changes I'll make. quirkyness can be attractive sometimes. Now if your name was Ethel and you were caught streaking through the veggie isle, that might raise a scowl or three. ;-) )Not from me though ;-0

I wonder - if you lost one commercial, would you suddenly understand - say ... one pair of earrings? What I'm wondering is if it all evens out. For instance, I love jewelry but can't remember any commercials and very few lines from movies. Except: 'puff up, puff up. They hate that!' and Tony Montana's rant in Scarface. Which comes in sooo handy, you know, in polite company. pff.

It's my opinion that quirkiness is a genuine art form and that must be why I also think you are fanTASTic!

I agree...the 70s and 80s were good years to grow up with...Living in a tent...seems very au naturelle for you...your free spirit Lives!!!

You know I make a popping noise with the sheets between my fingers too - and I guess it calms me down or something weird - but I have yet to meet a boyfriend who found it "comforting" -

Rel,

Oh, Yes they call it the streak! I love those novelty songs from the seventies. What would we have done without Ray Stevens?

Booda Baby,

I would love to have you at overcrowded parties so you could do your Scarface soliloquy and get people out of our way in a hurry. I think the brain exchange would be more like: the loss of one commercial = understanding how to do a story problem. The lack of jewelry appreciation comes from somewhere other than my brain - my stark and tired soul, perhaps?

Do you think I could get an NEA grant for my artful quirkiness?

Major E Flat,

Yes, I'm about as low-maintenance as you can get. And Happy New Year, more money, and more time to you and your family too...And let's not forget world peace.

AKelly,

How could we have lived together and not known that about each other?...I know, it's because we both know it's weird and so we don't let many people in on it until we have a blog and are asked to complete a meme.

Pop culture trivia is far more practical than practical information any day of the week. Let the nerds remember the details.

I am happy to let the nerds remember the details and then they can call me when they want to know the words to The Irish Spring commercial in the late seventies.

like a tent on the ground?

Churlita said...

Yeah, a tent on the ground. I still like being outside as much as possible - as long as it isn't too cold. I hate being cold.
