Blood's Thicker Than Mud

Well, today was kind of reality sandwich day. I had to take my car in before work and found out that I needed some costly break work done, AND that I wouldn't get my car back until tomorrow after work. My computer was once again full of viruses on a really busy day at work. I then ended my lovely Monday by going to the dentist and finding out I had a cavity. AWESOME!

The strange thing about it, was that I wasn't all that cranky. Since last Fall, I've been really working on trying to relax about things. And when I say things, I mean everything. I've definitely had mixed results, but when I'm in the thick of annoying stuff, I try to figure out what I'm supposed to learn from it, and then let it go. I think what I learned from today, is that I need to get going on doing my taxes, because I need the money. I've basically grounded myself until I get them done. I can go to school related activities for the girls and running, but I can't go out and play until they're done. Then I intend to really whoop it up.

Of course, while trying to do my taxes tonight, the other thing I learned was that I should have done my state taxes on-line because I never did them last year and now have to do them the old fashioned and confusing way - by using the book. I also can't find the print-out of last year's federal taxes. So, maybe the real lesson I need to keep trying to learn is to be more organized.

Okay. Now I'm going to change the subject and finally do the Saturday photo Scavenger hunt. The word this week was family. So, here are some old previously viewed family photos:

This first one was of my family when we lived in Arizona. You can spot me in almost any photo because I'm usually the messiest one in the frame. You know, the one with stuff on my face and one shoe on and one shoe off.

Here's me after my mom died and we moved to Chicago. These are my cousins, I think at Christmas because we're all wearing our best disco shirts.

And finally, this is me after I created my own family in Iowa.

That is a great attitude.

I made a decision a decade ago to never have bad days. Some days since aren't the greatest days, but there's always something to learn.

What you're saying will be naysayed as Pollyannish, but I think it's really just a matter of making it a habit to look at things differently.

I hate days like the one you had. The only good thing is that they are easier for me to blow off than most people. I just try not to worry anymore....

Good job on the scavenger hunt once again. You do stand out rather easily in the pictures. Love those seventies shirts.

I get my taxes done at a local tax service. I could do them myself, but then I would have to worry if I did them right or not and that's not what I need in my life.

Excellent pictures of your family. How many places have you lived?

Love the photos. That's a nice-colored dress in that last photo! I like violet.

There were a few disco-type outfits in the photos I went through for last Saturday.

Do you still have those disco shirts? Fab.
What's up with us both going to StL but not together? we need to coordinate better!

Churlita,
I hear what you're saying about trying to be happy everyday.
I read today about a fellow who was at the counter in a fast food joint when a psycho came up and shot him to death with out him ever knowing it. Shit man, my day was much better than his!

Now don't get me going about taxes. :(

You've been cute you're whole life. ;)

I already love this blog even though I just found you. Why? Because you have cool photos and you cracked me up with the line "I'm not a real Mommy Blogger because I'm poor white trash and I don't make crafts" in your 'about me'. Hilarious!

I try not to let stuff get to me either. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much.

I always do my taxes at H&R Block. it's expensive, but the peace of mind is worth it, to me.

Gyuss,

Exactly. It is all about what you choose to focus on.

Evil-E,

I think it's more that I'm old and have made hideous fashion choice in the 70's.

Dmarks,

I never get tired of looking at disco shirts...From a distance.

AlienCG,

I used to take them someplace too. But it took them so long to do and it seemed easier and cheaper to do them myself.

Tara,

I miss that dress. eVen though it would be out of style now. It was comfy in the mid 90's.

DJ,

I know, but I'm at the mercy of my daughter's schedules and it's hard to get there at all. I can usually only go for a day.

REl,

Thanks. No matter how crappy my day is, there are millions of people who have it worse.

Princess,

Thanks for stopping by. I always appreciate royalty.

LauraB.,

I know. I definitely have mixed results with that too.

Chance,

I may rethink things next year, but it's already pretty late, so I'm going to try to get them done on my own this year.
