Here's how it's hangin' in Iowa right now. Are those electrical boxes covered in ice? I'm sure that's safe.
I will try to make this quick. My friend J. asked me to meet him out for coffee (or tea, in my case) this evening. He is recently engaged, and I hadn't seen him for a while, so it was good to catch-up. He seems really happy. He used to have a crush on me for years. At first, he was 21 years old and in college and I was 31 and newly divorced with a 3 year old and a five year old and we were at such different places in our lives. He's a physically attractive guy, but we never quite meshed in other ways (at least as far as I was concerned). We worked hard at becoming friends, and have had some rough spots. I've tried really hard not to lead him on in any way shape or form, but as we all know, everyone wants what they want.
So, anyway... We took a break from our friendship for a year and a half or so and in that time, he was finally able to meet someone else who he seems to mesh really well with. I'm very happy for him and it will make our friendship so much easier now that we both want the same thing. He promised to bring his girly down to the Dublin to meet me in the next couple of weeks during what my friend Sara likes to call my "office hours" on Saturday night. I'm so excited to get to know her.
On another relationship front, I stopped by a friend's house for a minute on my way home from the coffee shop. While I was there, I asked her if she and her boyfriend did anything special for Valentine's Day. She responded, "Well, I DIDN'T push him down the stairs...." Ain't love grand? Maybe it's just safer being single.

The way you started the post, I thought you were going to say something along the lines of, "Now that he is engaged, I kind of like him." I don't know why, but that is how I saw the post going. TOTALLY wrong!
Sometimes those friendships are so worth the effort. I'm glad it worked out for you two, as it was meant to.
LOL'ed (sorry, but I did) at your other friends response to Valentine's Day. Single has its pluses :-)
Being married versus being single..Hmm, Either way I was left thinking of Not hitting BHM over the head with a blunt object..lol
That's great that you and your friend were able to reconnect..
Love means never having to push someone down the steps. So sweet. :P
That's so great that you and your friend were able to meet for coffee/tea, and that it'll be easier to remain friends.
21 versus 31 isn't that huge of an age gap, except when he is 21. the age gap narrows as you get older, it is kind of weird how it works.
Does that make any sense? Probably not...
Now you'll have a new friend in his girly. And you can be auntie to their kids. Love just expands. Although a hot young hunk who adores you is a good thing too.
A friendship worth keeping and working at is a treasure.
Ice is nice. Even when it might electrocute you. OH, just heard from M that if ice fills up your gutters then the water will potentially drip not only outside, but down into your wall/roof/shingles and could freeze and break things. ACK!
Boy girl friendships are always difficult.
I don't mind being single while I'm unemployed. I don't have to spend any money on dates and there is nobody to *not* kick me down the stairs.
MrManuel, Oh no. I'm not like that. I'm not one of those people who only appreciates those I can't have. I really like J. as a friend, but if we could have dated successfully we would have. I'm just happy he's happy and it will be easier to be friends now.
LauraB., It's a great friendship and so worth the effort. Yeah, my friend is hilarious. I think we can all appreciate the sentiment.
Mrs., Both being single or in a relationship has its merits.
Tara, Ha ha ha . That's funny.
Skyler's, Oh yeah. There is a huge maturity difference when someone is in their early twenties than when they're in their thirties. No matter what our ages, J. and I never would have worked. We weren't a good match for several reasons.
MnMom, Oh exactly. I hope his girly and I hit it off. And it was very flattering that he was so interested in me for so long. But it also made me feel bad. So, now we're both much happier.
Ananda, Totally.
Pamela, I have tons of guy friends. It's only tough when one person wants to date and the other just wants to be friends. I've been on both sides of that and I think it's frustrating on both ends.
AlienCG, You are such a half-full kind of guy.
Ha!!! I am still working on my valentine's post and "I didnt push him down the stairs" is an understatement right now.
