I Got a Baby's Brain and an Old Man's Heart
Kids, I don't know what it is lately, but I am B-E-A-T. Beat. (and not in that cool, younger Jack Kerouac way either) Okay, maybe I do know a little of what it is. It's kids. Young kids. Kids who are not teenagers.
Don't get me wrong, it's not like my teenagers aren't trying. They definitely are. You remember being in high school, don't you? You wanted things and you had an attitude and you were constantly trying to figure out what and how you could get away with shit. And all those dirty thoughts going through your head? Yeah, those. I know you remember those.
So, anyway. Yesterday my friend B. needed the girls to watch his kids so he could get some work done on his house. My girls like money and they love his kids, so they decided to tag team babysit. By the time I got home, the kids were still there and they were awesome, but they're younger, so they needed more attention. They are not like teenagers who prefer it if you ignore them, so they have more time to hatch plots and think up ridiculous lies in their heads in order to get away with all the shit they want to do. These kids actually wanted me to hang out with them and talk to them and watch them do stuff. Like I said, it was very tiring.
Then tonight I went to my beautiful friend S.'s house for chili and wonderful company. But there were more children running around. Which I totally love. Kids usually like me because they are more mature than I am and therefore get to feel superior. I got to mess around with Buzz Lightyear action figures and I was even asked to not only be my own action figure, but someone's apprentice. How kick-ass is that? I loved it, I had fun, but then I was very, very tired and had to come home to my teenagers who were mellow and content to quietly take photos of themselves in their rooms. Ahhhhh.

blame the Tired on the time change, baby. That and some conversation from last weekend that was totally lame and stupid...but could be a bit draining, even if you don't want it to be.
take care of yourself.
Churlita,
My granddaughters have alot of energy to share....that's why I work out. ;)
Usually the little kids wear me out in about an hour. The headache usually comes first. I get the idea I will not be posting pictures of the newborn anytime soon, probably never.
If it means anything, I have been pretty pooped out lately myself. I have resorted to the after-work nap to get my energy back up.
"Kids usually like me because they are more mature than I am and therefore get to feel superior."
Is that what it is? Thank you! When I go to my friend's house, her kids all come out of the woodwork to hang with me. Your reason makes lots of sense! :)
Hang in there...
When I go to the QC to hang with friends, the kids outnumber us! There are (no joke!) like 14 kids running around. I actually feel like maybe one day I could handle a couple... then I go home and realize how quiet it is. And that is pretty nice too!
Lookatmelookatmewatchmewatchmelooklooklook.
You're right; it really is better when they want to be ignored.
I'm tired too, this parenting gig can be rather exhausting. Good thing I made a fully informed decision about becoming a parent.
I love my friends kids. I love teaching em how to play video games, share comic books, and the joys of ordering pizza for every dinner meal.
And then I love sending em home after they've discovered the paradise of Casa Gyuss.
Let their parents be the ones to explain why candy corn isn't a legitmate meal. It's corn, right?
I know exactly what you mean. Just when I got my kids mostly to the age where they don't need my constant vigilance, all of a sudden I have a couple of grandkids! Um...maybe I shoulda been more vigilant. haha!
Welcome to my world. They are fun but I now know why people do the parent thing when they are young and don't wait till they are 40 ish.
sissy
Not,
yeah, I got plenty to blame it on. The tough part is sticking with one thing.
Rel,
Me too. I'm also starting to run on a more regular basis and I'm sure that's taking it's toll until I get in better shape.
Evil-E,
Oh, I love the after work nap.
Tara,
See? it's true.
Nor,
I'm hanging. How about you?
DJ,
They're both nice in their own ways. It's all about what you're ready for.
LD,
I know. It's just like that.
Egan,
You and me both.
Gyuss,
Wait. Candy corn isn't a legitimate meal? Crap!
LauraB,
Now I'm a little worried. I'm not ready for grand kids yet.
Sissy,
Kids will make you tired no matter how old you are.
