Then I Look at You and the World's Alright With Me

So, this time in 1992 I had been in the hospital since 2 am the night before and wouldn't give birth to a certain someone for another 9 hours. All of that should have given me a clue what I was in for, but I didn't know until later that Coadster would be so stubborn and never want to leave my side for years and years and sometimes still.

I remember when she was a little girl and she would have so much energy and so much compassion, and I'd think that if I had to chose the personality for my first daughter, it would be just that...But without the part where she's so hard on herself and beats herself up for every little mistake she makes.

She's definitely inherited both her parent's love for singing and dancing around like a total idiot. As a baby and a toddler she would sit in the front of her stroller and lean forward, so she could experience everything better. Because, seriously, what if she missed something? The whole world might explode.

The other big thing she's inherited from me is attitude. She is full of it, and who appreciates a sassy girl more than me? Let's all say it together...No one, that's who.

One of the things I love most about her is how true she is. Coadster doesn't worry about fitting in with the crowd. She is exactly who she is, and you can choose to like her or not. She doesn't make that her problem. I would have loved to have been like that in high school, and sometimes even now.

The hard thing to envision when your children are babies, is that they will become people someday. I don't think I could ever have envisioned just what a wonderful, talented, sassy, political, caring person Coadster would become. Happy birthday, Coadster the Roadster!

She makes it easy to write those things.

    Booda Baby,

Just so you know, they're much taller in real life.

    Brando,

  24. Yunno, my time as a social worker left me really jaded about parents. So many people are bad ones.

But you're such a good mom. It brightens my day every time I see it here.
